SIGNIFICANT WORDS AND PHRASES IN

SŪRAH AL-FATH, SŪRAH AL-HUJURĀT,

AND SŪRAH QĀF

 

 

  1. 2.  ARKĀN AL-ISLĀM (PILLARS OF ISLĀM)

    a. Kalimah Shahādah (The Declaration of Muslim Faith)

    Kalimat at-Taqwā, the Word of Piety (according to some commentators, this refers specifically to the Declaration of Muslim Faith), Verse number (48:26)

    Muhammad-ur-Rasūlullāh, Muhammad (Sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) is the (Prophetic) Messenger of Allah
    (This is the second part of the Declaration of Muslim Faith.  The full Declaration is:

    lā ilāha illAllah Muhammad-ur-Rasūlullāh, There is no god but Allah, Muhammad (Sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) is the (Prophetic) Messenger of Allah), (48:29)

    b. Salāh (Prayer)

    al-Masjidil-Harām, the Sacred Masjid (in Makkah), (48:25)

    rukka‘an sujjadan, bowing, prostrating (in Salāh), (48:29)

    as-sujūd, the prostrations (in Salāh), (48:29), (50:40)

    c. Zakāt (Obligatory Charity)

    Zakāt is mentioned many times in the Qur’ān, but not in these specific Sūrahs.

    d. Sawm (Fasting)

    Sawm is mentioned many times in the Qur’ān, but not in these specific Sūrahs.

    e. Hajj (Pilgrimage)

    al-Masjidil-Harām, the Sacred Masjid (in Makkah), (48:25)

    al-hady, the sacrificial animals (for the Hajj Pilgrimage), (48:25)

    muhalliqīn, having head shaven (for the Hajj Pilgrimage), (48:27)

    muqassirīn, having hair cut short (for the Hajj Pilgrimage), (48:27)
