MANBA‘ AL-IMDĀD: A FOUNTAIN OF HELP

A Compendium of the talks of:

AL-HABĪB AHMAD MASH-HŪR BIN TĀHĀ AL-HADDĀD
Rady Allāhu ‘Anhu

Compiled by his grandson:

As-Sayyid Muhammad bin Mustafā Bū Numay
Rahmatullāhi ‘alayh

DARS 59: THE BLESSED GATHERING OF IHDA ‘ASHARIYYAH

In the words of my master, my grandfather, may Allah spread his benefit, after the recitation of Ihda ‘Ashariyyah (Eleven poems in honour of Sayyidatina Khadija, Rady Allahu ‘Anha) of al-Habib Ahmad bin Muhammad al-Mihdar at the house of as-Sayyid Hasan bin ‘Alawi al-Ahdal, in Mombasa on the night of 11 Shawwal 1407 A.H. He said, may Allah be pleased with him.

A well attended gathering, what a great gathering! A well attended gathering filled with men of Allah. May Allah reward who ever stood in it and who ran for its goodness. All Praise is for Allah for this blessing which brought together our family and our pious predecessors and the most virtuous from the descendants and the Family of the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) May Allah reward you with good, O my brethren, and O those present in this place in this pleasant manner, and with the beautiful voices of the followers of the pious predecessors which revive bosoms and hearts and rain for us from rain-giving clouds of Allah.

If Allah wills, He will make it (this gathering) reach the destination with that caravan (of the Ahl al-Bayt and the pious predecessors). And we will get what we want and more than what we want. You will not miss, O noble sons, in this position if Allah Wills, with the establishment and the convocation and the manifestation of the signs of the pious predecessors until you are with them, if Allah the Exalted Wills.

And the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) said: Whoever imitates a people, he is from them.
And whoever connects with them, enters their group. And if Allah Wills, all of you have entered in this group, a great group, a most proud group, and a great friend, and spiritual path.

Those ten whom al-Habib Ahmad al-Mihdar has mentioned (in his last qasida), and those who followed them, and those who listened to them, and those in the valley of Daw‘an; whoever knows them, he is already present in the gathering, and if he knows them, they are present with him. And they are present in this gathering as there is nothing that veils the souls. They are the troops for Allah, flying where they wish, and their souls are free. So for example, in a gathering of Ihda ‘Ashariyyah like this, many souls are present. And when souls are present, they serve drinks. And when they serve drinks one to another, they serve until everyone is fully satisfied. Maybe a person is thirsty and he does not have water to drink, so if someone with water comes, he serves him, and he drinks. Being served to drink by souls who are not recognized except by (discerning) souls and by those who have a connection with them! And whoever attends their gatherings, his soul is served from their drink from wherever he feels and from whenever he does not feel, and from wherever he knows and from wherever he does not know. And he does not know except that he has been recorded as belonging to their group and that he has already been robed with their robe of honour, and he is known with that as someone with spiritual light and he is known to be from those (Sufi) Folk, a people with whom Allah is pleased and they are pleased with Him (as their Lord).

They are the party of (believers in) Allah. Yes, surely, it is the party of (believers in) Allah who are the successful. (58:22)

So all Praise is for Allah for blessing us with their noble gathering and we thank Hasan (al-Ahdal), his reward is with Allah. May Allah make this happiness permanent, and grant it the blessings of ‘Eid, and the blessings of the Qur’an and the blessings of the month of Ramadan and the blessings of Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Destiny), and the blessings of all our pious predecessors. And may He give every seeker from us what he asks for, and every hopeful person what he hopes for. We form intentions in this gathering. Everyone should make an intention from the intentions and may Allah fulfil each of it.

We seek the mediation of these (Sufi) Folk, may Allah be pleased with them. First, I personally want that may Allah give us to drink from their water and give us just as He gave them of the Faith and spiritual ecstasy and complete gnosis and pleasant life-history. Then whoever has a worldly need, the door is open and the gift is granted. And Allah fulfils all the needs, the ones that we intend to seek and the ones we do not seek. And He gives us more than what we ask, of the goodness of this world and the Hereafter.

O Lord of the worlds, for the sake of the right of this gathering in which we have gathered on one creed, and with one intention, and with one aim, in goodness, and kindness and wholesomeness. And we have forwarded that with the means of our Habib Salih bin ‘Alawi Jamalillayl who established these gatherings and these assemblies, and all our pious predecessors, O Lord of the worlds. And on this intention, and all good intentions from the goodness of this world and the Hereafter, and to the presence of the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam), al-Fatiha.
